took 6 shrubs and mulch to bristol street, had another great meeting at blake/whalley (2 actually), mulch to elm/platt, daisies and witch hazel to beaver pond, supplies to the animal shelter, a yard of mulch to east edge, and a partridge in a pear tree. (no i'm only kidding, no pear tree... this coming week, though, a purple plum!)
you know how when you're immersed in learning something you start seeing it everywhere? i just identified a tree in The Usual Suspects. which it was. it was a chinese tallow, aka "ghetto palm." invasive, everywhere, and somewhat pretty... if you don't know they're invasive.
heather came to visit this weekend :) what fun! we walked around new haven and took pictures by all of harrison ford's cars - or whoever's they really were - on sunday. and monday was freakin' awesome!
metroN to the city, went to ground zero since the girls wanted to see it (heather and her friend caroline) and caught up with becky (my other roommate), while we were there! she works in the building next door to the site (well, almost next door). it was so nice to see her :) i promised i'd go back while she's there this summer... she lives in the east village, so it won't be too much of a hardship for me :)
on our way to tkts we were stopped by a guy selling comedy tickets... so we bought them in case our broadway plans fell through. so now i have 4 tickets to a comedy show... what can i say? the guy had a beard... 2 hours in the line at tkts was SO worth it. we got orchestra seats for Les Miserables. therefore, i still have 4 tickets to a comedy show, want to go?
after that we went to a triathlon store - the girls were such good sports while i tried on shoes! great experience. i highly recommend jackrabbitsports on w 14th. got goggles and a swim cap and found out that i don't need stabilizing shoes by watching my gait on a treadmill camera... so cool.
chinatown for some sunglasses (i broke all of mine and tend to lose them like pennies) and the girls bought purses :) then mulberry street for dinner. mmm mmm good. then we changed for the show and ran to the subway, ran off the subway, and ran to stand in line to get in at the theatre on broadway.
my first broadway show! :) i'm not really a theater-goer and i don't know anything about what makes a show good or great, but i really enjoyed it and would definitely love to go again (i'm dying to see Wicked!)
ran to the train so we made the 11:22 and slept the 2-hour ride home :) WHAT A DAY!
i had today off so i worked only about 4 hours and then had a really good run. dinner with the PPSF crew and now bed - i'm going to the forest tomorrow to spend the 4th with my people... you know, the dirty, sweaty, bearded (except margaret) types on forestry crew and those MESc-ers who are doing research on deer droppings and spider mating habits in the wilderness. i'm taking my bike so hopefully i'll get a ride in with chris (my mtn bike has never been off road!! what a tragedy!) and i'm definitely going to swim my training length tomorrow at the lake - oh! i'm so excited! then a night outside in the sleeping bag and it's back to work on thursday...
okay, so i'm reading 3 books right now: the holy longing (which i've been reading for a really long time, but i like to only read that one when i'm in the mood for it because i want to soak it all in), monster of god, and now, the fountainhead (which i think i hate, but i'm reading it because i feel like i should read at least 1 rand before i continue asserting that objectivism is a crock of crap.)
meanwhile, i'm so tired! and feel so great... what an amazing summer :)
love and hugs to all!
