i'm *this* close to picking classes!

i'm down to six folks, SIX!!!! down from 600 before!!! i hope you're as proud of me as i am.

i have officially decided to also complete a grad certificate in development studies. which requires that 6 of my courses come from the dev. studies list and that i have 2 years of a language under my belt before i leave (*pah!*)

so the six i want are:
~econ 737 Economics of Natural Resources (though i admit to wanting my econ of sust. dev. course to count instead)
~Public Private Partnerships: Lessons from the Water Sector (kills two birds with one stone, see below)
~Cities and Sustainability... as described below.
~hist 839 Environmental History of Africa
~hist 965 Agrarian Societies... again below.
~law 21506 Globalization, Development, Poverty, and the Law

milestones today ~
classes i will definitely take this fall include:
~Cities and Sustainability in the Developing World (satisfies "bin 6" and one of my development certificate requirements)
~Water Resource Management (satisfies "bin 1")

4 others from which i will choose 2 for this fall (or 3 if one is spanish):
~Econometrics (satisfies "bin 7")
~Economics of Sustainable Development (satisfies "bin 4")
~Agrarian Societies: Culture, Society, History, and Development (a history course that satisfies a dev. cert. req)
~Spanish something... (a dev. cert. req)

other milestones ~
the two courses that will determine that i have concentrated in water science, policy, and management are:
~ Public Private Partnerships: Lessons from the Water Sector
~ Economics of Water Quality and Water Scarcity

other courses in the running for my attentions over the next 2 years include:
bin 2: Scientific Bases of Sustainable Agriculture or Global Resourses and the Environment
bin 3: Topics in Environmental Justice or Seminar on "Values of the Natural Environment"
bin 5: International Environmental Policy and Governance

so, "lemme 'splain. no, is too much, lemme sum up"
i get 16 courses, more if i want and find i can go on a little less sleep than the average bear:

7 have to satisfy the bin requirements for the 7 topics we're all expected to have learned something from
1 is my project course (glorified term paper that should take a semester to write)
6 are my dev. cert. requirements
2 are my concentration courses
and 2 are spanish (because i plan to test out of the other 2 req spanish courses)
which makes 18! so, i will be sleeping a little less, but it's just a little spanish, which never hurt anybody, so i'm not worried... in fact, i'm about to pee my pants from excitement. WHEN DO CLASSES START!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

(update: i realized i made a mistake; my math is wrong. because some of my requirements for the dev. cert. overlap with my bin and concentration requirements, i actually have at least 2 more to choose if i so desire. this is good news... maybe i can take heiroglyphics mom! hahahahaha)

So, I naively looked at the catalogue for my first semester in college and discovered that I could take as many classes as I wanted! (up to 18.5 hours' worth) and it would cost the same amount of money (i.e., no cost to me between NMS and work study in the Chem/Bio department.) Woohoo! They were paying me to learn! and I was going to get every penny's worth out of it.

So, I signed up for the biggies in my (then) major of Bio-Medical Chemical Engineering: Chem, Bio, some other science class, all for science majors, plus labs. There was also Calculus, there must have been some sort of English, plus PE and "Holy Spirit in the Now." I signed up for Advance French Composition, then discovered that audits were free, so I added a three-hour choir performance class to my schedule. 21.5 hours.

2nd semester rolled around and I remembered that, sleep or no sleep, there weren't enough hours to get all of the coursework done. I cut back to a mere 17.5 hours.

Hope you are able to balance life, school, etc.

hahaha, yes, i did the same thing myself lizzy :) took 21 hours credit one semester my sophomore year and had two research appts on various organizations around campus, plus newman club... i'm glad i did it then, at least now it's a temptation, and nothing more :) i'd appreciate your prayers though, to make sure it stays that way!
