from my tour of grove street cemetary. first of all - it's blazing today. not in the sense that you walk outside and the sun makes you hot like at home, but in the way that you're not really sure you're too warm until you're lightheaded from the humidity which is at 85% right now. thus further begins my two-year complaint about the weather here, which will undoubtedly, be too cold and too dry in very short order.
so i saw the headstones of some incredibly famous people including, of course, eli whitney (who is more famous here for exchangeable parts than cotton), noah webster, gibbs (of the free energy equation), a number of colts and winchesters, walter c. camp (you sec fans will be impressed), charles goodyear, oc marsh (first curator of the peabody mus. and exemplary paleontologist), among many many other well-known and not-so-well known people.
the funniest thing about the tour was that our little russian teacher tourguide woman kept saying "and if you want to be buried here, you go to the office and see the superintendent and he will tell you what is available. i know you don't want to rush, but you can if you want." like it's the gift shop. only instead of taking your souvenir home, you eventually are placed into it.
