up the hill in front of me the shining silver lines progress
the sun leading their leader who is, by now, far and away
swollen abdomens holding their cumbersome loads
ants jostle and shove for better positions in better lines
wondering, worrying if their work is done for the day,
the ants press on, pushing it away and ahead
tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow
what waits at the mound? a good meal, a rest... or another mission
separate yet single-minded impatient units we are
breaking the ranks only to get ahead and get away.

thank you dave.
i wasn't thinking of that when i wrote it, but then i realized about an hour later that i couldn't get that song out of my head... then i realized it was "under the table and dreaming" not "ants go marching" that i sad stuck in my head... and i felt silly... and that made me feel good!
