i had a dream.

that my mother was visiting me and staying in my apartment only the porch was different. it was winter and i had some plants on my kitchen counter - i'd been pruning and primping them or something when suddenly i realize there's a fence lizard on one of the plants... because my mother is afraid of everything non-human and smaller than she is, i was trying to get it out of the house without her knowing it had ever been in the house, which was very difficuly since this thing apparently had some supernatural understanding of human actions and evaded me much like the velociraptors in jurassic park. it even looked at me intelligently... kind of gave me the creeps. well, i turned away from it to inspect another plant, and realized there was something strange on this other plant. at first it looked like a piece of hose - rubbery and shiny - only with scales... my unconscious representation of snake skin is truly uncanny - it even felt like real snakes feel... so i realize it's a snake except it's wound around this bamboo plant and under the dirt like it's grown there its whole life. luckily it was cold outside and they hadn't been inside for long, so she hadn't warmed up to her new ambient temperature yet. at the same time as i'm inspecting this new animal (which appeared to be a corn snake only with a green head and tale... very odd) i notice a very small anole gazing up at me from a leaf near the snake's mid-body. being smaller, he had obviously warmed up more quickly than the snake would and was eyeing me curiously. i picked up the whole potted plant and took it back out to the porch, setting it next to the house so the lizard could possibly get back in and keep warm without my mother knowing i had done that intentionally. going back inside, i stepped closer to the intelligent fence lizard's plant and as i reached slowly to pick the pot up and take it outside, he lept off the plant and toward my face! obviously startling me... only I have no idea what happened next, because at that exact second, my alarm went off.
it's interesting to note that the feeling of my mother was definitely there, only she never made a appearance... analysis? anyone...? (other than the fact that i'm a herpetology nerd of course.)
